Comparison chart to show the benefits of
contributing appreciated stock
If you would like to
support the National World War II Museum , but don't want
to use cash, consider making a gift with appreciated stock
that you have held for over a year. As the chart below
shows, there are tax advantages if you donate the stock
directly to the Museum instead of giving cash or the proceeds
from the stock's sale.
This example has the following assumptions:
The stock is worth $1,000;
The stock was purchased for $200;
The stock has been held for over one year;
The donor is in the 35% income tax bracket; and
Long-term capital gains tax rate of 15% on the
appreciation.
